Thawing out

First, I apologize for the short entry, but as usual, I’m so tired from work that I’m having a hard time even figuring out what to say.

After a week away, we got to visit the homestead yesterday. The dumpster was finally gone, and most of the snow had melted, leaving the land a muddy mess. I went down to take pictures of the creek and had a hard time keeping from getting my boots stuck. The water level in the creek was definitely higher than usual thanks to the weekend’s mild temperatures (which are extending into this week) that melted the snow from earlier in the week. There was very little snow left, but I found this interesting “ledge” on the bank down by the creek:

Dave had put the push blade and chains on the Gravely earlier in the week to plow snow, and he decided to do a little yard work with it now that the snow was gone. It really seems to be working well, and I can see the blade coming in handy for more than just pushing snow.

There are a few signs of spring already showing up on the homestead, including lilac buds:

On the way home, we noticed how great the moon looked. Getting a photo of it from a moving vehicle proved to be a bit of a challenge, but it worked out in the end. As we sat at an intersection here in town, waiting for a traffic signal to change, I was able to get a pic of the full moon framed by a tree:

Ok, I think that’s all for now. Time to go to sleep. :)

I hope you’re truly starting to get some decent warm ups! I know they usually start in little spurts, but maybe this is it. We have a ways to go up here, maybe another month. The creek looks awesome!

  2. Mouse is fooling himself up there. He doesn’t get spring until May. I know. I grew up there.

I’m so jealous of your lilac buds. I wish, I wish, I wish we had lilacs.

Adk: We’re having decent weather this week (including an official record high temp today), but I know winter will still get in a few more jabs over the next month or two. Still, it’s nice that the frigid temps are gone for now.

GM: You can come get some of our lilacs. When we bought the place, we found that we had three out-of-control lilac bushes. These things are seriously huge.

Lovely pictures! What a gorgeous moon.

The smog in LA makes it so we don’t see the lights in the sky. I think I’ve seriously counted 13 stars. I miss the sky. . .

but not that white stuff on the ground.
